Explaining Terminology
- Field:
- A box or space where you can type in or select information on a webpage.
- Also referred to as 'Input Field'
- Field Category versus Field Label:
- The Field Category is the title that appears when Fields are grouped together.
- In the examples below:
- 'Burial Information' would be considered a Field Category.
- 'Burial Type' & 'Burial Date' would be the Field Labels for each field within the 'Burial Information' category.
- Field Type:
- Specifies the kind of data or information that can be entered into a field.
- The 'Field Type' chosen will affect how the information can be entered.
- Some examples of 'Field Type':
- Example of 'Select From Options' Field:
- Example of 'True or False' Field:
- In the example above, you would select:
- Yes, for 'True'
- No for 'False'
- 'Unknown' if it is neither true nor false.
- Example of 'Date or Text' Field:
- 'Date or Text' fields allow you to enter in either a date or text.
- If you know the exact date you can enter the specific date.
- If you don't, you can use text to explain that (rather than having to arbitrarily choose a date or leave the field blank)
