Accessing Cemify Templates
Cemify Templates allow you to create and send commonly used cemetery documents (for example, deeds, purchase agreements, invoices, etc.) that are dynamically populated with information from your Cemify records.
This allows you to speed up many cemetery administrative processes and encourages a digital first approach to record keeping. This article will introduce you to using Templates in your operations and show you how system administrators can edit existing Template language and formatting.

1. What is a Cemify Template?
At its core, a Cemify Template is either an HTML document or a PDF file (depending on setup) that includes dynamic variables (also referred to as merge tags) that populate different values based on the context in which the Template is accessed. For example, a dynamic variable might be used to populate the name of the plot, the purchaser's full name and/or the date of the sale into your Template. There are a variety of uses for Templates, but they are most commonly used to provide cemetery plot owners with a cemetery deed or right of burial certificate.
2. How do I access Templates in Cemify?
Your system's Templates can be accessed from individual Plots or Sales records. The Templates will appear the same regardless of where they are accessed.
Below are instructions on how to access Templates from either page.
To Access a Template from Sales:
To access an individual Sale, click on Sales in your top header menu, then select an existing sale or select Add Sale to create a new sale (learn more about creating sales in our beginners guide or in the How to Create a Sale article):

On the left hand side of a sale record, you will notice a Templates link:

This allows you to access all of your system's Templates, in the context of the particular sale you are looking at:

Selecting a Template opens it and pre-populates any dynamic variables with details from the sale in which you are viewing the Template:

How To Access a Template from Plots:
Navigate to the Plots page and select an individual plot you want the Template for.
On the left hand side of the Plot Information, you will notice a Templates link:

This allows you to access all of your system's Templates, in the context of the particular Plot you are looking at:

Selecting a Template opens it and pre-populates any dynamic variables with details from the sale in which you are viewing the Template:

3. Can I make adjustments to the pre-populated dynamic variables in a Template before sending?
Yes, when viewing a Template, you can click into any of the dynamic variables to make adjustments prior to sending. Here's an example of editing the purchasers name in a dynamic variable:

4. Once I finalize the wording and review it, how do I send the Template?
There are two options for sending a Template: printing it or saving to PDF for emailing. In either case, our first step will be to click on the Print button in the top right:

Then, to print, simply make sure your printer is selected and click print:

Or, to download to PDF, select Save to PDF and then click Save:

5. How can I make changes to the main/master template?
The Master Template can be adjusted by Account Administrators on a Cemify Account or a Cemify Employee.

Commonly Asked Questions
Multiple Plots or Purchasers/Owners
- Q: If a sale includes multiple plots or purchasers, how can I control how they appear on the Template?
- A: You can control this using the Print Preview display options before printing.
Adjusting Print Preview Display Options
When printing a template, you’ll see two drop-down menus on the right-hand side of the print preview screen:
- Purchasers to include
- Plots to include
These options control how names and plot details are displayed on the printed template.

Purchasers to include:
- Include all with comma:
- Displays all purchasers listed on the sale, separated by commas.
- Individual Purchaser's Name
- Displays only the selected purchaser on the template.
Plot to include:
- Include all with comma:
- Displays full details for each plot added to the sale.
- Note: If multiple plots are selected from the same lot, this option will list each plot separately. Example:
- Displays full details for each plot added to the sale.

- Summarize all plots:
- Displays a summarized version of the plots included in the sale.
- Note: If multiple plots are selected from the same lot, this option groups them together. Example:
- Displays a summarized version of the plots included in the sale.

When Should I Use Each Option?
- Use Include all with comma if you need full, detailed listings
- Use Summarize all plots for cleaner, more compact wording on the template
Blank Line Items on Template
- Q: Why are my Line Items blank on the Template?
- A: The line item is missing a Description.
How Sale Line Items Work
Each sale line item has two fields:
- Name
- Internal or generic label for the line item.
- Does not display on templates
- Example: Plot Cost
- Description
- Displays on templates
- This is the text that prints
- Example: Cost of a Single Plot
Important: Templates display the Description — not the Name.
- If the Description field is empty, the line item will appear blank on the template.
Using Saved Line Items
Saved Line Items let you predefine both fields so they auto-fill when added to a sale.
- If a Description is set on a Saved Line Item, it will automatically populate when added to a sale
- You can edit the Description per sale; changes only affect that sale’s template
- (See: How To Add & Manage Saved Line Items for more details.)
Saved Line Item Example:
Name: Plot Cost Description: Cost for a Single Plot
